Stranger from abroad...

Hannah Arendt, Martin Heidegger, Friendship and Forgiveness, Daniel Maier-Katkin.  Reminded me why I admired Hannah Arendt so much thirty years ago.  She remained both honest and humane while losing none of her mental rigorousness.  Makes me long for the days when we had public intellectuals, rather than ideological spewers, on both the left and right.

Once again I find myself looking for my socks.  On another note, I have been watching the great Jacques Tati as M. Hulot courtesy of Netflix.  Some humor is sublime.

Existential Question

Fall is here with more than a nip of winter in the air.  Most of the leaves have fallen and other than a few bursts of yellow and the very determined brown oak leaves, the trees are bare.  Nature is either dying or going into hibernation and I muse on the transitions of life: are they permanent or temporary?  Is the model of the universe Spring Renewal & Resurrection & Conservation of Energy?  But, what I really want to know...where are my damn socks?
